Known as the son of Shiva and Parvati, he is also associated with the Kirata (hunter) form of Shiva. His mythological background includes delivering the Pashupatastra to Arjuna, highlighting his role as a protector and guide. 

Worship of Vettakkorumakan often involves vibrant Theyyam performances, where artists embody this divine figure in elaborate costumes and makeup. The most notable temple dedicated to him is located at Balussery, close to Kozhikode.
